Semi-Managed 10Gbps Dedicated Server

All 10Gbps Dedicated Servers are Semi-Managed. 'Semi-Managed' means that: our administrators install your 10Gbps server to your custom configurations, reinstall the OS per request, configure the network settings on the bare-metal server, and help you troubleshoot in case of any operating system, networking, or software configuration issues. You can use custom IPv4 and IPv6 network settings and scale your bandwidth quota between 1 Gbps and 10 Gbps. Install Ubuntu, AlmaLinux, Rocky Linux, Debian, FreeBSD, Fedora, CentOS, or any other Linux server OS distribution. Windows Server editions 2019 and 2022 are also available on the edge server configuration page. Those who need a graphic dashboard (GUI) to manage their server can choose CentOS Web Panel (CWP), Froxlor, Vesta, another open-source control panel, or cPanel or DirectAdmin. To anyone who wants to use a Linux-based Cloud PC, we recommend Peppermint OS, which is based on the Debian/Devuan repositories.

10 Gbps Dedicated Servers - FAQ

How 10Gbps dedicated servers differ from bare metal servers?
The 10Gbps dedicated servers are physical servers (bare metal servers) that are connected to the Internet via a 10 Gigabit Network Interface Card (NIC) and allow the installed applications to use up to 10 Gigabit bandwidth rate. This is the only major difference from other dedicated servers.
Is a 10Gbps dedicated server resource scalable?
The computing resources used as part of a 10 Gbps dedicated server hosting service, such as processing power (CPU), random access memory (RAM), and storage capacity, can be scaled up to the physical limits of the physical processor, RAM, and storage drive(s) capacity. The amount of data transferred and the overall network bandwidth rate is scalable up to the full physical capacity of the 10 Gbps Network Interface Card (NIC).
Depending on the selected physical server system, RAM can be upgraded to the maximum amount supported by the server motherboard. For some dedicated servers, storage drives (HDD, SATA, SAS, SSD, or NMVe) can be upgraded without powering down the physical machine. Increasing network bandwidth rate above 10 Gigabit may require powering down the server and adding additional NIC cards.
Are there 10Gbps dedicated servers with unlimited bandwidth?
Yes, if by "unlimited bandwidth" you mean no restrictions on incoming and outgoing Internet traffic and no charges for data transfer used. Each 10Gbps dedicated server comes with a 10 GigE virtual or physical capacity of the Internet connection port, chosen by the server user. The allocated bandwidth varies from 1 Gbps to 10 Gbps. There are no limitations or restrictions on the used bandwidth or data transfer quotas, up to the capacity of the contracted bandwidth quota or the Internet connection port, selected by our clients.
Unless otherwise stated, all 10Gbps dedicated hosting services offered by HostColor feature "unlimited bandwidth up to the capacity of the Internet connection port". This is also called "unmetered bandwidth", which is actually a more accurate term.
"Unmetered Bandwidth" or "dedicated server with unmetered bandwidth" means that the hosting provider does not measure the bandwidth used by the server. In most of its other Edge data center locations HostColor allows its customers to use the full capacity of the physical Internet bandwidth port of their dedicated servers.
What security is included in my 10GE dedicated server?
10Gbps Bare Metal Server providers and Dedicated Cloud Hosting infrastructure providers offer the following levels of security with their dedicated hosting services:
1. Physical Environment Security
Physical environment security refers to all physical aspects of the data center facility used to host bare metal servers. This includes the resilience against natural disasters, the physical design of the data center and the way the server rooms and cabinets are organized, as well as power redundancy, Internet network redundancy, and overall business continuity.
2. Network Security
Network security is part of the overall data center communications architecture. It includes the redundancy of fiber connectivity routes and the wide choice of ISPs and interconnection options.
3. Physical Server Security
This can also be referred to as "Bare Metal Server Security". It refers to the specific hardware components and configurations of the server that increase its operational availability. These include the number of power supplies (PSUs) used, the number and capacity of network interface cards (NICs), the number and specification of hard drives used (SATA, SAS, SSD, NMVe, etc.), the use of RAID controllers, the Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI), also called ILO and iDrac by server vendors) for remote network access to the server, etc.
As a provider of 10 Gbps dedicated servers, HC automatically covers the highest possible industry standards regarding "Physical Environment Security" and "Network Security". The "Physical Server Security" is a customizable element of the dedicated hosting server, which is a choice of the user of the physical server (i.e. the customer).
Most of our dedicated servers include the following "Physical Server Security" by default:
  • Redundant Power Supplies (PSUs)
  • At least 2 x 1 Gbps physical Network Interface Cards (NICs)
  • Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) and IPMI capabilities, except for the Edge servers, which are shipped with SSH management access only and are not recoverable in the event of an operating system (OS) failure that renders the server inoperable
Is my 10 Gbps dedicated server safe from DDoS attacks?
Denial of Service (DoS) and Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks typically result in service unavailability and thousands of dollars in data transfer service fees, especially if you host your IT infrastructure with one of the major hyperscale cloud providers.
HostColor's 10Gbps DDoS-protected dedicated servers minimize the risk of service unavailability and virtually eliminate the risk of you incurring data transfer costs as a result of artificial, bot-generated traffic to your server instances.
When you use our 10Gbps dedicated servers, your applications run behind sophisticated DDoS protection firewalls, maximizing application availability. Our natural, enterprise-grade, DDoS-protected networks safeguard your 10Gbps dedicated server from unexpected network downtime, preventing loss of business and revenue. Our DDoS-protected network services filter out malicious traffic and ensure that legitimate traffic requests reach your servers and applications. Specifically, our DDoS protection includes the following capabilities:
  • Real-time mitigation of malicious attacks
  • Human-generated traffic that reaches your 10 Gbps dedicated server
  • Native protection against network attacks of any size
  • No additional fees or charges for DoS and DDoS protected servers and infrastructure
  • No fees for bot-generated and malicious traffic on all unmetered 10 Gbps dedicated servers and dedicated clouds
  • No increased latency and long round-trip delays in application delivery in the event of a network attack
  • All IPv4 and IPv6 settings are protected from DDoS attacks
Is my 10Gbps Edge Dedicated Server protected against failure?
Yes! Each Linux-based 10Gbps Edge server has four (4x) 25-gigabit network interfaces configured for redundancy on 2 separate NIC cards. All four interfaces are placed into a single link access group (LAG) and utilize LACP (Link Aggregation Control Protocol ) for individual link monitoring. Your Edge Dedicated Server is connected to two network switches with two (2x) 25-gigabit connection links to the first switch and two (2x) 25-gigabit to the second switch. Each network switch has multiple 100-gigabit fiber connections to the data center's network architecture that feature failover protection. The overall networking architecture sustains full data transfer capacity with the failure of any single networking appliance or link. The data transfer from the Edge data centers to either the public Internet or the MPLS IP VPN network is secured by two diverse routers for each network. The routers are connected to a pair of network switches. The data transfer can be forwarded through both routers and will switch over automatically upon failure of any networking device.
Can I have a dedicated cloud server with 10Gbps connectivity?
You can use your preferred cloud computing virtualization technology to create and deploy a dedicated cloud infrastructure on a single bare metal server or a cluster of servers. If you want to use two 10Gbps dedicated servers, they can be directly interconnected using 10GE NIC cards. If you need HostColor's help to create a cloud computing architecture, we can help you design one, deploy it, and manage it as needed.
Linux-based 10Gbps Edge servers hosted in our Edge Data centers can use the Ubuntu operating system with Virtual Machine Manager (VMM) virtualization technology in Ubuntu 20 (or Ubuntu 22) OS.
All 10Gbps servers can use Proxmox VE, VMware ESXi, Linux Containers, VirtualBox, OpenVZ, Microsoft Hyper-V, Kubernetes, Docker, or other virtualization platforms.
Can I host Docker and Kubernetes containers?
Yes. You can use one or more 10Gbps dedicated servers to create a dedicated cloud infrastructure based on Docker and Kubernetes and host containerized applications on it.
HostColor's NY bare metal and cloud infrastructure enables enterprises to deploy run, scale up, scale down, and quickly move Docker containers and the containerized applications from one virtual containerized environment to another without interruption. Docker containers are executable software packages that contain everything needed to run an application: code, runtime, system tools, system libraries, and settings.
HC also enables organizations to deploy a fully isolated, dedicated cloud infrastructure for hosting and orchestrating containerized applications, based on the Kubernetes open source platform for managing containerized workloads and services.
Is business continuity possible on my 10Gbps Dedicated Server?
Yes, you can do this using virtualization technology such as Proxmox VE. Proxmox provides a software stack called the HA Manager that automatically detects failures and provides automatic failover.
The Proxmox VE HA Manager acts as an "automated" administrator. After resources (VMs, containers, etc.) are configured, the HA Manager monitors them for proper functionality and handles service failover to a redundant 10Gbps server in case of failure or downtime. The HA manager can also handle normal user requests to start, stop, move, and migrate a service.
But it's not just Proxmox VE. There are many other technologies that enable the use of two or more physical servers to provide business continuity for IT infrastructure and hosted applications. Microsoft Windows Hyper V also allows server owners to create a high availability cluster.
Does HC offer AMD based 10Gbps dedicated servers?
Yes, we have an AMD Dedicated Server section where you can find hardware configurations with various AMD Ryzen and AMD Epyc processors featuring 10 Gigabit bandwidth with configurable data transfer quotas and adjustable bandwidth rate. When you click to order any of the server plans, you can select the service location and fully customize the server starting with the edge location, RAM, memory type and capacity, bandwidth port, and data transfer quota.
Is there technical support available for my 10Gbps server?
All HostColor 10Gbps dedicated servers in come with "Free Infrastructure Support". HostColor never charges you for access to infrastructure technical support. Unlike the large clouds like AWS, Azure and others, that charge their customers for access to technical support for their bare-metal or cloud infrastructure.
Our infrastructure technical support covers everything related to network interfaces and the core functionality of the physical components of your 10Gbps dedicated server such as CPU, RAM, and storage drives. With our Free Infrastructure Support, you can save money and have access to the technical support you need for the core components and networking features of your 10Gbps server.
Please note that the "Free Infrastructure Support" does not include support for the operating system (OS), any custom configurations created and maintained by the customer, and the installed software applications.
In addition to the "Free Infrastructure Support" HostColor takes the dedicated hosting services it provides to a new level of reliability with its "Semi-Managed Dedicated Server" support.
What does a Semi-Managed Dedicated Server mean?
While most dedicated hosting providers offer "Unmanaged" or "Managed" hosting services, HostColor does "Semi-Managed" and "Managed" Dedicated Servers.
"Unmanaged" means that the client is solely responsible for the management of the bare-metal dedicated server they have. The provider's responsibility is to make sure that the server network connection works properly and in case of a hardware failure, to fix the failed components, or to replace the whole physical server.
"Managed" means that the provider is responsible for managing the network, the physical server, the installed operating system, and the software environment. The provider does operating system updates, software updates, and other management and configuration tasks on the physical server. In other words unmanaged dedicated servers do not feature server-side support and therefore the clients pay for the base infrastructure service. The 'Managed Dedicated Servers' feature full server-side infrastructure, OS, and software environment support and therefore are more expensive, as the provider's experts commit time and work hours to deliver technical and system administration.
HostColor fills the gap by offering "Semi-Managed" 10Gbps Dedicated Servers. "Semi-Managed" means that our administrators install your preferred OS on the physical server or your preferred virtualization platform to transform the physical server into a Cloud infrastructure. We create a custom technology environment per your requirements and keep on record a description with the 'base desired state' of your 10Gbps server. As a part of the "Semi-Managed" support contract, HostColor reinstalls the server OS per the request and helps the client fix issues and troubleshoot in case of any operating system, networking, or software configuration issues. All "Semi-Managed" 10Gbps dedicated servers feature up to 30 minutes per month of technical and system administration. Any time spent by HC experts on managing the server OS, software environments, or troubleshooting will be charged at HostColor's standard managed service rates.
Can I have a custom built 10 Gbps dedicated server?
Yes, please send us your hardware requirements for a 10 Gbps dedicated server and we will we respond with a service quote. After it is accepted and paid, the process of building and testing the server will start.
The estimated delivery time for custom-built servers is between 3 and 30 days.
How long will it take to provision my 10Gbps dedicated server?
This depends on the edge data center location you request and the specific 10Gbps server configuration you require. For most of our datacenter locations, it takes up to 1 hour to install your dedicated server and send the login credentials as a welcome email in your account and to the email address registered in your account. More specifically:
  • During business hours (9:00 am - 5:00 pm local time) 30 minutes - 2 hours server delivery time
  • Outside the business hours (5:00 pm - 9:00 am local time): 2 hours - 9 hours server delivery time (with an average delivery time of 4 hours)
  • Weekends: 1 hour - 24 hours server delivery time (with an average delivery time of 8 hours)
The lowest average server delivery time applies to 10Gbps dedicated servers running a standard Linux operating system (OS) such as Ubuntu, Debian, AlmaLinux, Rocky Linux, or virtualization platforms such as ProxMox or VMware, with the CPU, RAM, and disk space listed in the server plan, and with default IPv4 and IPv4 address settings.

Can I use a 10Gbps dedicated server for remote work?
Yes, the 10Gbps dedicated servers are perfect for remote work. There are various use case scenarios for both individual users, such as freelancers, or organizations that can increase productivity and create a secure technology environment with a dedicated server hosting service.
High Availability of workflows: When some workflows are moved to a 10Gbps dedicated server hosted in any data center, this offloads the personal computer resources used. The business workloads are not interrupted upon any temporary suspension of the desktop or personal computers or outside the standard business hours.
Secure uniformed OS and software environment: When an organization uses a 10 GE dedicated server to host most of its internal workflows, it applies a custom security and access policy. The users cannot modify the operating system (OS) and applications. The system administrator defines the security and privacy settings per the organization's policy. No malicious software could be installed by accident.
Secure digital communications: All incoming emails and files are filtered to apply the organization's custom security policy.
Improved effectiveness and reduced management time effort: When all the data and applications used by the organization are hosted in one location, the users save time on access, file management, and various other use cases.
Optimized data usage and management: The organization as a whole and its employees save a significant amount of data transfer on an internal document flow.
Data leak prevention: Using a uniform technology environment for the internal distribution of files and documents reduces the risk of accidental data leaks and other unwanted exposure of sensitive business information.
Data Loss Prevention: Unlike desktops and personal computers, servers offer multiple, customizable data storage scenarios and a redundant array of disks, which reduces the risk and prevents data loss. A dedicated server hosting service could use two separate dedicated servers that operate as a High Availability (HA) Cluster. Such a configuration de facto guarantees 100% retention of the data and 100% availability of the applications and business workflows.
Here are some of the many use cases for resource-demanding workloads to host on a dedicated server:
- Secure Business Email servers
- 2D and 3D design software

Can I run Virtual Machines on my 10Gbps Dedicated Server?
Yes. If you are using one of our Linux-based Edge servers, you can use the Virtual Machine Manager (VMM) virtualization technology in the Ubuntu 20 (or Ubuntu 22) operating system (OS) to create, run, and manage virtual machines with Linux or Windows operating systems. On other 10Gbps server configurations, you can use Linux or Windows operating systems, or you can use Proxmox VE, VMware ESXi, Linux Containers, VirtualBox, OpenVZ, Kubernetes, Docker, or any other virtualization platform.
Can I have a Cloud PC on HC 10Gbps dedicated servers?
If you need a Cloud PC with a Microsoft Windows operating system, we will provide you with a 10Gbps server with Proxmox VE virtualization platform. It will allow you to have multiple Cloud PCs (aka Remote Desktops), each running Microsoft Windows 10 or Windows 11. They can be accessed securely via Microsoft Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP).
If you want to use a Linux-based Cloud PC, we recommend Peppermint OS. It is based on the Debian/Devuan repositories.
How does HC assign IP addresses on the 10Gbps servers?
Each Linux-based Edge serve is assigned its own IPv4 subnet that varies from /29 (8 IP addresses) to /24 (256 IPs). The first three IP addresses are used for the networking service of your server as follows: 1st IP address is for the router default gateway; 2nd IP address is reserved for router1; 3rd IP is reserved for router2. The 4th IP address is the main IP of your Edge Dedicated Server. Any additional IP addresses can be ordered from Accounts.HostColor.com and can be used for various services on your server.
Clients of other 10 Gbps dedicated servers are assigned 1 usable IP address and can add more IPs at any time.
Can my 10Gbps server have a /24 IPv4 subnet?
Yes, we allow our customers to use up to one /24 IPv4 block (256 IP addresses) on a dedicated physical server, for compliant use only. Please note that the sending of bulk, unsolicited mail of any kind is not allowed on any of HostColor's networks.
How does HostColor bill my 10Gbps Dedicated Server?
Once payment is made, the billing month for your Semi-Managed 10 Gbps Dedicated Server starts from the moment we send you the login credentials. By default, all 10Gbps dedicated hosting services are set to month-to-month contracts to provide maximum flexibility.
You can choose between month-to-month, 3-month, 6-month, and annual contracts. If you opt for an annual contract, you will receive a lower monthly service fee. However, you will need to prepay the full contract (all 12 service fees). Please note that your 10Gbps Server on a month-to-month contract must be canceled properly and terminated before we stop billing you. The 10Gbps Edge servers, like other dedicated hosting services, require a 30-day cancellation notice. In some cases, we may allow early cancellations. To qualify for an early cancellation, you must submit a cancellation request from your Account 5 business days before the beginning of the new billing cycle.

HostColor's team members have extensive experience with major operating systems, virtualization technologies, Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP, and hundreds of open-source applications at any stage of their development and business lifecycles. You can rely on HostColor to install and maintain a secure, productive, and cost-effective technology environment on your 10Gbps dedicated server.

Why Use Our 10 Gbps Dedicated Servers?

HostColor provides semi-managed bare metal servers and dedicated hosting services with 10Gbps bandwidth ports from more than 100 data centers worldwide. We utilize our local partners' NOCs and our own IPv4 & IPv6 networks to design and deliver 10Gbps network services for the public and private dedicated cloud infrastructures used by our customers. Use our 10Gbps dedicated servers to create a cloud infrastructure and securely host your company's internal workflows or deliver application services to your customers. HostColor does not charge you for the gigabytes or terabytes of data transfer you use, and saves you thousands of dollars per month by allowing you to use an allocated bandwidth quota that varies from 1 Gbps to 10 Gbps. There are a few things to consider when customizing your cloud-ready 10Gbps Dedicated Server:
Bandwidth & Data Transfer

Bandwidth & Data Transfer

HC delivers 10Gbps dedicated servers measured by the allocated "Bandwidth" quota (in Gbps or Gbps) and servers that are measured by the transmitted "Data Transfer" (in terabytes). Most of our 10Gbps Dedicated Servers are measured by the allocated bandwidth and feature a fixed quota rate between 1 Gbps and 10 Gbps. The clients of those servers never pay for the used data transfer in gigabytes (GB) or terabytes (TB). HostColor's 10Gbps servers, measured by the allocated "Bandwidth" and all Unmetered Servers save our customers between a couple of thousands and tens of thousands of dollars on an annual basis.
Linux-based Edge Server

Linux or Microsoft Windows 10Gbps Servers

Our high-bandwidth, unmetered 10Gbps Edge servers are Linux-based. Available Linux OS distributions include Ubuntu 20 or 22, RockyLinux 8 or 9, Debian 12, and RedHat versions 7.9, 8.5, and 9.3. Microsoft Windows OS can be used on virtual machines with Ubuntu as the underlying OS and Virtual Machine Manager (VMM).
All other 10Gbps dedicated servers can be used with any Linux distribution, a Microsoft Windows OS, or virtualization technologies such as Proxmox VE and VMware ESXi, etc.
Server Access & Management

10Gbps Dedicated Server Access & Management

Our 10Gbps Linux-based Edge servers are managed using Secure Socket Shell (SSH). Authorized users can remotely access the Edge server using access credentials called SSH keys. We do not provide an IPMI/ILO/IDRAC remote interface for remote server management.
All other 10Gbps dedicated server configurations come with IPMI/ILO/IDRAC remote server management interfaces, unless other specified.
Business Continuity

Business Continuity Scenario Add-on

HostColor provides you with an IPMI/ILO/IDRAC remote management interface for your 10Gbps dedicated server, unless otherwise specified in the server order. The remote management interface allows you to restart and troubleshoot the server in the event of a failure. If you want to ensure that your workflow is not disrupted in the event of a server failure, we recommend that you deploy two AMD-based servers and cluster them. You can do this using virtualization technology such as Proxmox VE or Microsoft Hyper V.
