Which OS can I use on my Dedicated Server in Europe?
There are "officially supported operating systems" in our edge data center where we provide servers with 5 Gbps to 30 Gbps bandwidth ports and unlimited data transfer. They are Ubuntu 22.04, Ubuntu 20.04, Rocky Linux 9, Rocky Linux 8, Debian 12, RHEL (BYOL) 9.3, RHEL (BYOL) 9.0, RHEL (BYOL) 8.5, and RHEL (BYOL) 7.9. If you need to use virtual server environments on your Bare Metal server in Copenhagen, Frankfurt, Hamburg, London, Oslo, Milan, Munich and Paris, you can install the Virtual Machine Manager (VMM) virtualization technology in Ubuntu 20 (or Ubuntu 22) OS. VMM provides a graphical user interface (GUI) to create and run virtual machines with Linux or Windows operating systems.
In all other European data centers where HostColor provides dedicated server hosting services, there is a wider choice of Linux distributions, Windows OS, and virtualization technologies such as Proxmox VE and VMware ESXi, etc.
Can I run Virtual Machines on my NY Dedicated Server?
Yes. If you have a bare-metal server hosted in our European data centers where we provide bare-metal serves with 5 Gbps to 30 Gbps bandwidth and unlimited data transfer, you can use the Virtual Machine Manager (VMM) virtualization technology in Ubuntu 20 (or Ubuntu 22) OS to create, run, and manage virtual machines with Linux or Windows operating systems.
If you have a dedicated server hosted in HostColor's other European data centers you can run any Linux or Windows OS, or use Proxmox VE, VMware ESXi, Linux Containers, VirtualBox, OpenVZ, Kubernetes, Docker, or any other virtualization platform.
Can I have a Cloud PC on the European dedicated servers?
If you need a Cloud PC in New York with a Microsoft Windows operating system, we will provide you with a bare-metal server with Proxmox VE or a virtualization platform. It will allow you to have multiple Europe-based Cloud PCs (aka Remote Desktops), each running Microsoft Windows 10 or Windows 11. They can be accessed securely via Microsoft Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP).
If you want to use a Linux-based Cloud PC, we recommend Peppermint OS. It is based on the Debian/Devuan repositories.
How does HC assign IP addresses on the European Servers?
Most of our clients with dedicated servers in Europe are assigned 1 usable IP address and can add more IPs at any time.
Each European Edge Bare Metal server with 5 Gbps to 30 Gbps bandwidth and unlimited data transfer is assigned its own IPv4 subnet that varies from /29 (8 IP addresses) to /24 (256 IPs). The first three IP addresses are used for the networking service of your server as follows: 1st IP address is for the router default gateway; 2nd IP address is reserved for router1; 3rd IP is reserved for router2. The 4th IP address is the main IP of your Edge Dedicated Server. Any additional IP addresses can be ordered from Accounts.HostColor.com and can be used for various services on your server.
